How to Use VisiCan

This section explains how to install, operate, and update your VisiCan Display, from first setup to advanced usage.

1. Package Contents

Your VisiCan package includes the following components:

  • VisiCan Display Unit
  • OBD & Power Cable (or CAN Gateway Cable for supported models)
  • VisiCan Connection Cable
  • USB-TTL Interface Cable (used for firmware updates and data logging)
  • USB Extension Cable (recommended for easy access during updates)

Tip:
The USB-TTL interface is not required for daily operation. However, keeping it connected and routed to an accessible location makes firmware updates much easier.

2. Test Before Installation (Recommended)

Before installing VisiCan into the air vent, we strongly recommend testing the unit:

  1. Connect the OBD cable to the VisiCan connection cable
  2. Connect the USB-TTL interface using the USB extension cable
  3. Plug the OBD connector into the vehicle
  4. Turn the ignition on
  5. Verify the following:
  • VisiCan powers on with ignition
  • Boot animation and logo are displayed
  • All four buttons respond correctly

This step ensures the device was not affected during transport.

3. Installing VisiCan into the Air Vent

Installation typically takes 30–45 minutes and does not require cutting or permanent modification:

  1. Remove the center air vent from the dashboard
  2. Remove the internal vent fins on the driver-side vent
  3. Install VisiCan in place of the vent fins
  4. Route all cables safely toward the OBD port
  5. Reinstall the air vent assembly

⚠️ Important:
Do not leave cables loose or hanging in the footwell. Improper cable routing may cause safety risks while driving.

4. Power & Memory Behavior

  • VisiCan powers on automatically with ignition
  • Display modes, brightness, and day/night settings are saved in internal memory
  • Settings remain stored even if the vehicle battery is disconnected

5. Button Functions

VisiCan is operated using four physical buttons located discreetly on the display:

  • Button 1: Previous display mode
  • Button 2: Day / Night background mode
  • Button 3: Brightness adjustment or action button
  • Button 4: Next display mode

6. Display Modes Overview

VisiCan offers multiple real-time display modes, depending on vehicle and configuration:

  • OFF Mode (available on CAN Gateway models)
  • Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Display
  • General View
  • Retard Details
  • Misfire Details
  • Boost & Torque View
  • Temperature Details
  • Advanced data layouts
  • Performance Monitor (acceleration timing)

DTC Mode

  • Displays ECU diagnostic trouble codes
  • Press Button 3 to send a DTC clear command
  • Clearing behavior depends on vehicle and ECU support

7. Understanding Displayed Values

All values are color-coded for quick interpretation:

  • White: Normal operating range
  • Orange: Warning / approaching limit
  • Red: Critical value – immediate attention recommended

Commonly displayed parameters include:

  • Knock retard
  • AFR
  • Fuel pressure
  • Oil and coolant temperatures
  • Intake air temperature
  • Boost pressure
  • Injector deviations

This design allows drivers to react instantly without constantly watching the display.

8. Performance Monitor Mode

Performance Monitor automatically measures acceleration times:

  • 0–100 km/h
  • 60–160 km/h
  • 100–200 km/h

How it works:

  • Timers arm when vehicle speed is below the lower threshold
  • Timing starts automatically when speed exceeds the lower limit
  • Timing stops at the upper limit or after 25.5 seconds
  • Leaving the mode resets all recorded times

9. Firmware Updates & USB-TTL Interface

Firmware updates are performed using the USB-TTL interface.

USB-TTL Interface Behavior

  • Some versions enter boot mode automatically during programming ( 1st and 2nd Gen )
  • Newer versions ( 3rd, 4th and 5th Gen ) may require holding Button 1 while powering on the device

Firmware Update Summary

  1. Install the required USB-TTL drivers
  2. Identify the correct COM port
  3. Enter boot mode
  4. Upload the correct firmware file
  5. Restart VisiCan after the update completes

Using the latest firmware ensures the best performance and access to new features.
