VisiCan Wi-Fi Module — CAN-Bus Edition Feature Version
In a large majority of vehicles, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) architecture permits only a single diagnostic client (Tester/Diagnostic Tool) to communicate via the OBD-II port at any given time. Consequently, attempting to run secondary devices such as P3 Gauges, LED/LCD performance steering wheels, or generic OBD gauges alongside an active VisiCan display results in communication conflicts.
The VisiCan CAN-Bus Gateway Wi-Fi Module features an integrated CAN Transceiver hardware circuit that actively snoops live telemetry queried by the VisiCan display and emulates standard OBD-II PID responses to secondary devices. This allows both display systems to operate seamlessly in parallel without ECU bus rejection.
ℹ️ Standard Wi-Fi Module Difference: Because this functionality relies on dedicated CAN-Bus transceiver hardware circuitry, it cannot be enabled on standard Wi-Fi modules via firmware updates alone. It is an entirely separate hardware revision.
⚡ CAN-Bus Interface & Operating Logic
Communication Protocol & Rate: Operates at standard 500 kbps baud rate with 11-bit addressing. Responds to standard generic PID queries from secondary devices (P3 / Steering Wheel) using 0x7E8 / 0x7E0 diagnostic addresses.
Streamed Data Scope: Secondary devices operate strictly in "Read-Only" mode. Only parameters actively displayed on the VisiCan screen and queried in real-time from the ECU are broadcasted. Secondary devices cannot execute Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) clearing or ECU write commands.
Plug-and-Play Automation: No web interface configuration required; the module begins CAN broadcasting automatically upon bootup.
🛠️ D.I.Y. Wiring & Pinout Guide
Connecting the CAN-Bus Gateway Wi-Fi Module to the main VisiCan display is identical to the standard module. However, wiring connection to secondary devices (P3 Gauge / LED Steering Wheel, etc.) must be completed by the user as a D.I.Y. (Do-It-Yourself) installation.
⚠️ Connection Details & Package Content: Please note that a female OBD socket or adapter connector is not included in the package. Two open-ended silicone pigtail wires emerge from the module housing (featuring an internal 120Ω terminating resistor):
Blue Wire: CAN-High (CAN-H) ➔ Secondary Device OBD Pin 6
Green Wire: CAN-Low (CAN-L) ➔ Secondary Device OBD Pin 14
Power Supply Connections: Power feeds for the secondary device (Pin 1: ACC Switched Power, Pin 16: Constant Battery +12V, Pin 5: Chassis Ground) must be tapped directly from the vehicle wiring or OBD port in parallel by the user.
📱 Core Wi-Fi Module Features & Capabilities
24/7 Automatic DataLog: Automatic internal flash logging of displayed live parameters (20-minute rolling log storage).
LiveValues Web Dashboard: Real-time wireless telemetry streaming to mobile phones, tablets, or Android head units (250 ms / ~4 Hz).
Wireless Management Interface: Full display configuration and system setting controls.
Over-The-Air (OTA) Updates: Module firmware updates as well as main VisiCan gauge firmware and boot logo flashing.
Custom Asset Flashing: Background bitmap and startup animation updates (5th Gen models only).
